COMMUNITY PROJECTS
THROUGH TWO CENTURIES

Timeline:
1941: CP formed as Napa Chapter of British War Relief, opening the Salvage Shop and a depot.
1942: Reorganized as Napa War Relief, Inc., fundraising nearly $10,000 in three years.
1945: Renamed COMMUNITY PROJECTS, INC.
1950: Held first "Fancy Fair;" donated $5000 for a Napa High School pool; formed Auxiliary for Parks Victory Hospital and started staffing Napa Community Blood Drive for 55 years.
1950s-1970s: Published three cookbooks and sponsored several events including Clyde Beatty Circus and the Annual Antique Show.
1956: Bought 715 Franklin Street building.
1957: Moved Fancy Fair to Napa Town and Country Fairgrounds.
1958: Expanded functions with the opening of Queen of the Valley Hospital.
1962: Formed Junior Associate Membership.
1977: Purchased Beacon Service Station, converted to a "budget station."
1980: Station bulldozed, Annex built, and parking lot paved.
1988: Disbanded hospital volunteer memberships.
1990: Discontinued "Fancy Fair," created Thrift Shop corner.
1996: Started "Puttin’ on the Glitz."
2002: Lucille Trussell bequeathed her estate to CP, including her Victorian home and funds.
2003: Launched "Treasures of Christmas Past," transforming the Thrift Shop into a Christmas wonderland.
2008: Rozaline Johnson Family Estate named CP as a beneficiary.
2014: Earthquake temporarily closed the Thrift Shop for clean-up; reopened the next day.
2017: Fire allowed victims to resupply items at reasonable prices during the "Treasures of Christmas Past" event.
2019: Introduced a program providing $250 Thrift Shop gift certificates to fire victims.
2020-2021: COVID-19 pandemic led to temporary closure per state mandates, continued staff salaries, and eventually reopened with limited customer interaction.

CP’s first phone number was 68W

For the annual Fancy Fair event, CP members roasted turkeys,
​baked hundreds of apple pies from scratch, and stood on Napa street corners
selling raffle tickets while accompanied by Fancy Filet, the steer!
